snail mail

In this time and age, I still find myself having to write official letters at work for speaker invitations. There’s two sides of the spectrum, either for formality sake OR they just don’t have email. Sad but true, some developing countries still have very very limited spread of internet accessibility. In personal matters as well, you’d find occasions where you’d have to write a formal letter.

Getting to my point, today I wrote an official letter to Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri. I don’t get the point of sending snail mail just to put a point across. I suspect it’s a way to slow things down when LHDN needs to refund your overpaid taxes.

I received a letter from them late February claiming that I did not pay my taxes for income generated in 2004. I didn’t think twice about it, I just thought, hey maybe I really didn’t pay. I talked about it with my cousin Debra and she asked me to trace back the copies of my BE form and see if indeed I owe LHDN anything.

To my surprise I DID find a receipt of payment in the same amount mentioned in their letter! Happy days! But also at the same time upsetted lah! How come they don’t have a record of my payment? Means I gotta prove to them I paid, which means……..you needed to write them a freaking letter!!! in MALAY!

If we’re all so into a paper-less operating culture, and with the encouraging use of filing taxes over the innernet, why do we still resort to sending snail mail? Geebers!!!
